Some people establish themselves in an industry, and manage to stay on top for so long that their paths to success become examples for other people of how to do things right. Bambi Cantrell [HEADS UP-bringing up her website will automatically start audio] is a wedding and portrait photographer who may have forgotten more than most people ever knew about portraiture. Even Scott Robert Lim, who is himself profiled in this series, credits Bambi Cantrell for teaching him how to become a successful shooter.

She’s an expert at posing, lighting, composition, making a connection with her subjects, and capturing a mood. I saw her present “Big Prints, Big Profits” at Creative Live’s Photo Week Live last fall, a forum where she also taught “Posing Family Portraits” in addition to putting in hours of thoughtful time on photo critiques.

Although she comes across as a nice, very normal lady, she takes startling and moody portraits. Her portfolio contains images striking in their beauty.

This is one profile in a series about photographers to follow in 2014. These are people who are doing groundbreaking photographic work and who teach the rest of us how to do it too. They fit the PhotographyTricks motto: spreading passion for life through photography.
